Project
Select a TV show and create a wordmark that captures the mood and themes of the show with only typography. Then constructing an animated open credit for the series.
I chose the “Bones” TV series because it’s one of my favourite crime-related comfort shows. As centered around forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, known as “Bones,” and her team at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute Medico-Legal Lab, who collaborate with the FBI, particularly with main coordinator FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, the series unravels crimes while exploring relationships, including friendship and romance. It’s intriguing to witness the transformation of two initially controversial figures, Brennan and Booth, from mutual disgust to love and the creation of a family towards the end of the series.
“Bones” give off a dark and gross feel with all the decomposing of bodies. At the same time, it’s futuristic with the next-level technology used in the Jeffersonian lab.
Overall, it’s a fantastic comedy, mystery, detective, and cozy series, and it offers an escape from reality to forget about problems and enjoy the show.
Concept
The wordmark I designed complements “Bones” effectively. The cohesive yellow-to-blue colour palette establishes the visual tone of the TV show. The negative spaces formed by bone-marrow-like shapes evoke a bony feel. The graphic expresses the brilliance, chemistry, fascination, and mystery of the show.
Storyboard
The scene starts with a circle (the inner circle of the “O,” then the circle reshapes into an oval and starts splitting.)
From 0:00:706 to 0:01:998, the oval cells all popup. This is the end of scene one.
This will be the first screen of the second scene. The “B” will move slowly to the right.
The main actor and actress’s name will pop from left and right as the “B” moves to the right. The end of this scene.
This will be the second screen of the second scene. The “O” will move down slowly.
The co-actor and actress’s name will pop from left and right as the “O” moves downward. The end of this scene.
This will be the third screen of the second scene. The “E” will move up slowly.
Other main actor and actress’s name will pop from left and right as the “E” moves upward. The end of this scene.
This will be the fourth screen of the second scene. The “S” will move down slowly.
The show creators name will pop from left as the “S” moves downward. The end of this scene.
Straight cut to the third scene where layers of dot pattern will reveal the wordmark. The first layer shifts to the right.
The second dotted layer will shift to the left.
The last dotted layer will shift to the right.
